Kyambogo University Student Dies After Sustaining Burn Injuries at Bweyogerere Residence
A first-year Kyambogo University student has died after suffering severe burn injuries at his rented residence in Bweyogerere, with the university facilitating funeral arrangements and announcing that no official delegation will attend the burial in line with Ministry of Health Ebola prevention guidelines.

Juma Bumba, a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management at Kyambogo University, has died after sustaining severe burn injuries at his rental residence in Bweyogerere Town.

According to a statement addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka, and signed by the Dean of Students, Bridget Mugume, Bumba passed away on Saturday morning at Kiruddu Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.

“We hereby inform you of the passing on of Mr Bumba Juma, registration number 25/U/PLE/08178/PE,” the statement read.

The university said it had facilitated all funeral arrangements, including costs related to embalming, transportation and burial, in accordance with its established Student Burial Policy.

According to the funeral programme released by the university, Bumba will be laid to rest on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Kamonkoli, Kerene Village in Budaka District.

The institution noted that, in line with Ebola prevention guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, it would not send an official delegation to attend the burial.

“Let's uplift the family in prayers in this trying time,” the statement concluded.

Details surrounding the circumstances that led to the burn injuries were not immediately available.
